Welcome to the Left Berlin Newsletter. This week, we’re announcing our annual Summer Camp, which this year will be at the beginning of June in a new venue. At our coordinating meeting this week, we decided to organise a whole horde of events in May and June. More information in next week’s Newsletter.
Coming Up This Week
This evening (Thursday), sees an event Letters of Resistance for the first anniversary of the EU (Anti-)Migration packet GEAS/CEAS. This action, from 6pm at the KulturMarktHalle, Hanns-Eisler-Str. 93 is organised by the Berlin group of the transnational network CEASwatch/ General Assembly against the Pact. The Day of Action Against the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum is our Campaign of the Week.
Also this evening, Professor Mohamed Abdou will be speaking about Organizing in the End Times: Palestine, Turtle Island, and Dreaming Dangerously Beyond the Nation-State. Doors open at 6pm, and the talk will start at 6.30pm, HU Campus Mitte - Hauptgebäude Room: 2097. This talk will be held in English.
There is also a Fundraiser Event for the Gaza Freedom Flotilla. The Event starts at 6.30pm in bUm, Paul Linke Ufer 21 with an introduction about the Freedom Flotilla. This will be followed by a film screening, panel discussion, and live music. All proceeds support the Freedom Flotilla's direct action to break the illegal siege.
Finally for this evening, there is a Pub Quiz for Sea Rescue. The quiz questions are not related to the topic of sea rescue! Register in advance on Instagram or by sending an e-mail to Gruppe.berlin@sea-eye.de. Please specify in advance if you would like to receive the quiz questions in English. It starts at 7.30pm in KollektivBar ES, Pflügerstraße 52. Admission is on a donation basis.
To mark Friday’s Global Climate Strike, Fridays for Future are organising a bicycle demo from the SPD headquarters to the CDU headquarters. The demonstration starts at 2pm at Willy Brandt Haus, Wilhelmstraße 140, near U-Bahn Hallesches Tor, and will travel to Konrad-Adenauer-Haus. There will be a large action photo as well as different verbal and musical contributions.
On Saturday, there is a demonstration No deportations to Greece! No deportations of Gazans! No deportations of anyone! The organisation calls on all people of conscience to join in the fight against Germany’s relentless attacks on migrants and asylum seekers. Take to the streets: reject and fight against their racism and border violence! The demo starts at 2pm at Leopoldplatz.
On Sunday, it’s the latest Left Berlin political walking tour - Red Wedding on the March. Our tour will be meeting at 2pm Badstraße 38, right where Badstraße crosses the Panke, a few minutes from U-Bhf Pankstraße. The tour will end two hours later near S-Bhf Humboldthain. The tour is free, but we would appreciate a donation of around €10 for the tour guide Nathaniel.
Sunday also sees the opening of the exhibition Gaza - the war against the Palestinians. The exhibition, in Sprechsaal, Marienstraße 26 contains large photos documenting the current situation in Gaza. The opening night will also contain a speech (in German) by journalist Karin Leukefeld about the history of the conflict in the Middle East and how it affects Gaza.
On Sunday evening, it’s the third session of The Left Berlin Book Club about Walter Rodney’s How Europe Underdeveloped Africa, which you can read here. Today, we’ll be discussing Chapter Three - Africa’s Contribution to European Capitalist Development—The Pre-Colonial Period. As usual, it starts at 7pm in Agit, Nansenstraße 2.
On Tuesday, anarchists4palestine are showing the film From Ground Zero -Stories from Gaza - a collection of 22 short films filmed in Gaza during the genocide: Original with Subtitles (Arabic/English). They want to break this silence and share the work of this 22 filmmakers for their fight for Palestinian liberation. It starts at 8pm in Kreutzigerstraße 18.

Summer Camp
Every year, The Left Berlin organises a Summer Camp with meetings, workshops, networking, and culture. This year, we have a new venue - the Haus des Wandels in Steinhöfel, near Berlin. Summer Camp 2025 will be on 7th-8th June. Save the Date. We will be publishing a programme and opening booking soon.

The Video of the Week shows Monday’s protests against Berliner Senat’s decision to deport 4 European and US activists who have been committed of no crime. Thanks to the Irish Bloc for making the video. The mobilisations for the Berlin4 will continue. But also remember that Germany is already deporting Palestinians.
